Michael van Gerwen could not qualify for the quarter-finals of the European Championships on Friday night. The world number one surprisingly checked against Steve West (7-10) and could not recover from an early deficit of 1-4.
With this defeat, Van Gerwen finishes a record-breaking series of 21 consecutive wins under the EC's darts. Mighty Mike had won the previous four editions of the European Championship and was eager to win the tournament for the fifth time in a row, a performance never seen before.
Catch-up race without result
