The number of young people with a vacation job has increased slightly this year compared to the previous summer. Last year, it was 31%, now 37%. This applies especially to new work. The number of young people who started working more on their current job has remained the same. This is the conclusion of FNV Jong in his annual study on holiday work.
Thousands of young people aged 13 to 29 who work during the summer earn a little more than last year, averaging 8.69 euros. Last year, girls won more than boys for the first time and this trend continues. This difference can be explained by the fact that girls are more active in sectors that pay more. This is the least gained in construction and the most in cleaning and care and well-being. The sectors in which most young people find jobs are retail trade (24%), the hotel and restaurant industry (18%) and health care (15%).
The union also found that it was quite easy to get a vacation. It takes an average of three weeks for young people to find a job – almost a week less than the year before. Most young people find a job in family or with friends, on the internet or in the current part-time job. Placement agencies play only a small role in looking for vacation jobs. (ANP)
