SPIJKENISSE

Van Oosten has been in the House of Commons since 2012. He has served as Chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on European Affairs and Justice and as a spokesperson for the Royal House. Van Oosten studied law in Leiden. Previously, he was a city councilor and city councilor in Schiedam. The appointment of the new mayor is made by the Crown: the King and the Minister of the Interior.

The intention is that Van Oosten be elected mayor on February 20, 2019, according to the municipality. Van Oosten should be replaced in the second room by Kelly Regterschot, Limburg. This is certainly not yet the case, as the candidates at the top of the list who had previously thanked a parliamentary seat can now have their ideas. They have the first rights.

Not the first

Van Oosten is not the first member of the VVD faction not to pronounce the term. Regterschot was candidate number 47, but will likely join the group of 33 in the near future.

The big pitch is a thorn in the foot of President Kamad Khadija Arib. Departments would disappoint voters and give the impression that they only considered room membership a stepping stone to more attractive work. Van Oosten must therefore still fear a reprimand for his farewell.

The VVD does not find that such criticisms are justified in the Van Oostens case. After all, he had been a member of Parliament for a long time and did not leave for business, for example, but he is "kept for the public administration". The party speaks of "loss for the group, but an asset for Nissewaard".
