A long-range hyper-GT, the fastest McLaren of all time

After the previous escape, the car no longer has a secret, but we let's officially present it. This is the McLaren Speedtail!

With the Speedtail, McLaren completes its new Ultimate Series, the top-of-the-line model range. Previously, it was exclusively P1, but since the arrival of the Senna, we know that McLaren divides the characteristics of the "old" hypercar. The Senna is synonymous with performance and form has a certain sense for function, although this car is full of special details. The Speedtail has a completely different character and, according to McLaren, is a "Hyper-GT".

The fact that the graceful carriage is not attractive to everyone has become clear in the article on the previous appeared images, but especially the Speedtail is certain. The all-carbon body is particularly elongated and profiled because of its lascivious lines and its pointed rear. With 5.2 meters, it is actually very long. In addition, it would be the most streamlined McLaren of all time, which is reinforced by the fact that, especially for a hypercar, the number of notches and air intakes is remarkable. The covers on the front wheels are a detail not to be missed. The hoods remain upright while the wheel rotates and the air must be optimally guided over the sophisticated bodywork. Another striking detail is the beam through the front side windows, a clear reference to the legendary McLaren F1 of the '90s.

The buttons to run the machine are – where else? – in the roof

That does not stop the comparison with this car, because the tailgate of the Speedtail is perhaps the configuration of its seat. As with his illustrious predecessor, the driver is in the center. The dashboard is symmetrical and the driver is surrounded on the left and right by screens containing information and commands. It may take some time to get used to it, but this is an added benefit as a practical benefit. Both passengers are diagonally behind the driver. McLaren does not fear a bizarre division at the detailed level either. So, the buttons to operate the machine are, yes, the roof. This also shows that there is a lack of sunshades. Instead, the Speedtail allows you to darken the top edge of the windshield with the touch of a button, just as you can with some panorama tasks. The glass itself is therefore opaque. The position of the exterior mirrors is also special because, as with the Audi E-tron and Lexus ES, the physical rear-view mirrors have been replaced by cameras and screens. ] Unlike these cars, the cameras are retractable on the McLaren, which further streamlines the optimization in certain situations. This happens in "velocity mode", the position necessary for the Speedtail to reach its impressive top speed. Whether in GT or not, the Speedtail is the fastest McLaren of all time, with 403 km / h. McLaren does not enter into the details of the powertrain that makes this possible, but confirms that the Speedtail combines an electric motor with a gasoline engine and that this hybrid produces no less than 1,050 horsepower.

The acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h, the British are just passing through and that from 0 to 200 is apparently not as relevant. No, here it is 0-300 km / h and it must be done in 12.8 seconds. For comparison: P1 performed 16.5 accounts for this job. Its maximum speed reaches the Speedtail in "Velocity mode", in which the car is lowered by 35 mm. The highest point of the roof is then only 1120 mm of asphalt removed

The McLaren Speedtail is built to 106 copies and this number is not chosen at random: F1 is also published in an edition of 106 pieces. The new top-McLaren is even rarer than his colleague Senna, 500 of which are manufactured. More expensive is also: the Senna is in the price list for 750,000 pounds, the Speedtail is expected to yield 1.75 million pounds. Converted into euros, this means a "gross" price of 1.97 million euros.
