The film The daughter of Flemish director Lukas Dhont is censored in the United States
Almost all nude scenes have been removed from the film, says Dhont, whose movies can be seen on Netflix from January, in the Flemish newspaper De Morgen .
A girl talks about a young transgender who wants to become a ballerina. The drama has already won several awards, including the Cannes Film Festival. The film contains a number of scenes with nudes and a fragment in which the protagonist has oral sex.
Netflix decided to remove these scenes or reassemble them, so that the genitals of protagonist Victor Polster can not be seen. Director Dhont is not happy with the decision. "But I resigned myself," he says in the newspaper. "Netflix does not want to leave anything to chance."
Dhont does not find it logical to assemble the penis from the stage. "If what was shown was not essential for me, it would not have been, but we talked about it for a long time, I gave my opinion and you think that Netflix is afraid of controversy", explains there.
Girl does well in Dutch cinemas; In arthousetet theaters, the film attracted nearly 50,000 visitors in less than two weeks.
