Regarding the performance gain of the 1180 compared to the 1080Ti, we know so far zero point zero. Everything is based on judgments and speculations. That 1080Ti will really go well until the 1180Ti or even the 1280Ti comes out, so your purchase is not immediately useless.
Still about these "surprises" on gamescom, we know nothing certain and everything is based for now on rumors and speculation. It is not certain that nVidia will actually announce the 1180 at this event for gamescom. The rumor about the 1180 has already come several times this year
From another side:
Apparently you had time to buy a new GPU for 800 euros. In my opinion, this remains the best reason for a purchase: buy what you need and what fits your budget when you need it, unless a new version is immediately imminent (as advertised). Otherwise, you will always wait. The new hardware that is degrading your current "old generation" hardware is an embittered apple that you still have to face.
That a 1180 is to be expected and that the release is in now and x months is a second. This expectation has been around for a few months since the beginning of the year. You knew it and it is a risk that you have taken yourself.
