Esteban Ocon and Kevin Magnussen were disqualified Sunday after the US Grand Prix. The pilots of Force India and Haas, respectively, had their results canceled due to a violation of the fuel regulations.
Ocon was deceived in opening his car's fuel supply too early in the race in Austin. The 22-year-old Frenchman finished seventh at the Circuit des Amériques.
Magnussen, 26, was ninth, but the Dane consumed more fuel than the maximum allowed of 105 kilos during the race. Points earned for the World Cup stand also go up in smoke.
Due to disqualifications, the Ocons teammate at Force India, Sergio Pérez, finished eighth. Brendon Hartley of Toro Rosso has climbed to ninth place, his best result this season. Marcus Ericsson took tenth place and dragged another point for Sauber.
"We have not benefited"
It is not yet known if Force India and Haas appeal the decision of the stewards. The boss of the team, Otmar Szafnauer, Force India, does not understand the disqualification of Ocon.
"We did not see any advantage over the whole," according to Szafnauer Motorsport . "It's the first time something like this happens: if you go over the limits of your job and do not take advantage of it, they will not penalize you either."
The US Grand Prix was won by Ferrari driver Kimi Räikkönen. Max Verstappen (second) and Lewis Hamilton (third) complete the podium in Austin
The season will resume Sunday with the Grand Prix of Mexico. The Mercedes driver from Hamilton has seventh place to become world champion for the fifth time in his career.
