What is Kollumer's tumult?
It was a tumult in Kollum against the patriotic reigns in French times. The court of February 3 and 4, 1797 was the scene of the so-called Kollumer revolt. This was caused by an opposition to compulsory military service and civilian armament, which was created on September 13, 1796 by the new government. Abele Reitzes, who had summoned Orange at the time of his recording, was locked up on January 28, 1797. This caused a commotion in which a large crowd gathered to release him.

On the way to Kollum, the houses of the patriots were destroyed. A small unit of armed civilians from Dokkum, who came to the rescue, has barely escaped. By stifling this revolt in the bud with a great show of power and arresting 168 people, the patriots managed to let peace return. Suppliers Jan Binnes and Salomon Levy were beheaded. Binnes February 20, 1797 and Levy, who denied having been guided and hid, a year later, March 17, 1798.
