The research is conducted by the Center for Crime Prevention and Security (CCV). "It's very basic advice," said Patrick van den Brink, director of CCV. "About the quality of locks, windows, the presence of an alarm system and its transfer."
The department pays the security scan. The Dutch Association of Mayors wants the possible costs of extra security measures not to be borne by mayors.
According to a ministry study, 43% of mayors were victims of aggression or threats between May 2017 and May 2018. A recent example is the mayor of Haarlem, Vienna, who has been hiding.
