The producer and radio and television host Joop de Roo dies at the age of 88.
Music was the thread of his work and his private life.
"A life that for many decades has been dominated by the music that was so dear to him and for which he meant so much," said in a statement on behalf of the family.
De Roo (September 29, 1929) was one of the founders of Radio Tour de France. From the beginning, in the seventies, the radio program – still popular today – was richly endowed with melodies and jingles. He also received an Edison for the production of the album My Romance – A tribute to the arranger (with the Orkest Metropole directed by Rogier van Otterloo) with his wife Greetje Kauffeld as soloist.
Roo at the head of Light Music at VARA and later AVRO, both on radio and television where he also produced music programs. He has brought many famous jazz artists to the Netherlands, such as Stan Getz, Bill Evans, Dizzy Gillespie, Phil Woods, Mark Murphy and Nancy Wilson. From 1988 until his retirement, he worked for the conservatory of Hilversum. His musical expertise was noticed by the Montreux Jazz Festival, where he was repeatedly invited to sit on the jury, and where he worked on the annual television event Rose Rose (Rose Gold).
From Roo and advised by countless artists. He has signed for almost all the albums of singer Greetje Kauffeld, with whom he married in 1969.
