Eye measurements at opticians yield very different results, according to a study by the Consumers' Association. The association sent twenty subjects on the road for eye tests at national opticians and renowned independent opticians. Two optometrists from the Utrecht Hogeschool also participated in the test.

The differences between the measurements were large. According to the consumer association, each eye measurement differs considerably from other measurements made on the same subject. The test showed that consumers had the best chance of performing an eye test at Specsavers and Eye Wish. These chains showed the least often a measure that deviates from other measures. Eyelove most often had a different measurement of the eye.

According to the Consumentenbond, a measure of the eye is not an exact science, but can be influenced by the time of day or by a cold. The union advises unsatisfied consumers of their new glasses to return to the store. Most chains of opticians promise to return another pair of glasses or money.
