Passengers and employees of RET who have crossed or entered the Stadhuis metro station in Rotterdam are not at risk due to the release of asbestos. This would appear to come from air samples that the transport company RET had examined.
However, the material containing asbestos still has to be removed. In any case, the station will remain closed for two days, but travelers must take into account that it will take longer. Subways do not work.
Tuesday The Stadhuis metro station was evacuated after the discovery of asbestos particles during the construction of four emergency exits. Subway journeys between Rotterdam Centraal and Beurs were subsequently canceled.
This discovery was a surprise for the RET because, in 2009, research was in progress on the presence of asbestos in the station. Then nothing was found.
Hundreds of travelers have already been to RET with questions about the situation. As a precaution, the underground carriages driven by the station are cleaned and the filters replaced.
