Review: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – Call of Duty has long been a franchise that nestles within our society as a habit that recurs each year. We know the system of three different developers who contribute every two years. This year, it is perhaps the best developer of this series. Treyarch won the sub-franchise Black Ops and this developer was also in the cradle of Zombies mode. The implementation of this mode was a bold choice at the time, which turned out surprisingly good. For Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the choice is even more daring. With Blackout, they introduce a Battle Royale mode for the first time within the franchise and the single player mode is canceled. All the more reason to delve into this game and see if it can stand up as a whole.

Old Friends

Let's start with the party that made the big of the series and, of course, the multiplayer. In total, there are fourteen cards you face. Of these fourteen cards, four (Firing Range, Summit, Jungle and Slums) were recycled. These four cards come from Black Ops and Black Ops II. Nuketown will also be added to that. It's really a question of perception, because of course you can say that the actual number of ten new cards is low. On the other hand, the mentioned cards are a feast of recognition for fans. In addition, they are well designed and, in a sense, also apply to other cards. Although you can not follow the colorful level design. After all, they do not have such an inspiring design, although they do their job.

This will serve as a guide for a gameplay still very fluid. In the multiplayer mode, the tempo is slightly lower than the previous Black Ops, but at the same time it is slightly higher than the rhythm of Black Ops II. The reason is mainly related to the fact that as a player, you are now forced to use a more tactical approach. What matters in this area are the various specialists, who each have their own special actions and weapons. You can not play with the same two specialists when you play with five against five on the same team. When playing with six against six, a team can have up to two of the same specialists. This restriction offers a better balance, because of the different characteristics of these characters. It also makes the game more dynamic, as any one of them can score the match in his own way.

Other tactics

Here are some examples. In this way, you can block an important route on the map by placing a roll of barbed wire. You can also send your aggressive dog for exploration or make sure everyone on your team gets a complete health indicator. And so that we can continue for a moment. To compensate for the lack of history, all specialists have now received their own story. These short stories are all accompanied by high quality cinematics. These are glorified tutorials in which you play pots without salt against bots, which will become boring in the long run. Instead of the single player campaign, it makes almost no difference and you do not have to.

To return to your health meter: your health does not fill automatically during a game. You must do it yourself now. To do this, you can insert a large syringe into your body and you will be back in full. This option slightly reduces the pace of the action and allows you to think more in certain situations. For example, if you are half dead after a fight and there are always two enemies. You can try to finish it right away, but you can also hide first to treat yourself. Because of the topics already mentioned, you automatically tend to think more about how you play as a team. In addition, tactics are central; Sometimes you only think of the specialist you choose for a particular game, for example

"Control" and "Heist", two new modes are good examples. The first is a bit of a cross between Search & Destroy and Domination. You play in two teams of five against each other, where you have, as a team, defend or conquer both areas of a turn that are divided into three parts. If you know how to conquer an area, it also disappears and there is another one left. At the same time, you have only a limited number of team lives. The result is that you have to think of a division of roles if you want to be able to work effectively. Because when players play the proper role, you go much further, because the specialists complement each other to a certain extent.

Control combines the best of other modes and is ideal for tactical and team play enthusiasts. The latter also applies to Heist, just like the same thing in terms of lives. In fact, you can go down, but once you are shot down, you have to wait until the next turn to be able to participate again. The goal here is to carry a bag of money and drop it at a certain place. At the beginning of a game, nothing starts and you can only choose one rifle. When you make more casualties in a team or you hit enemies, you get money. With this money, you can buy weapons, props and benefits again to move on to the next round. Heist is an interesting addition for players who enjoy working together.

But it can be even more difficult

We have often talked about having to work tactically in the multiplayer mode and that is even more true for Blackout. This is the new Battle Royale mode that Treyarch introduces. The premise is simple: just be the last to stay in teams of two or teams of four men. You must settle with up to 99 players. The number of players in the really gigantic folder depends on whether you play alone or in a team. Besides the fact that the card itself is very big according to the concepts of Call of Duty, it does not seem too big. In fact just what you need, even for the total number of players. Nice is that the Blackout card is full of clear references to other multiplayer cards.

Zombies also make their appearance here and can sometimes make you leave the bed unannounced. If a headless chicken runs on the map, it is useless. After choosing a place to land, you must immediately enter a building to search for weapons. It is also useful to find items with which you can connect, as well as armor or attachments for your weapons and benefits. Picking up things can be better; at the time of writing, the elements do not light up very well. In addition, it is not practical to remove items from a backpack somewhere. It would have been easier if these items of a backpack had been directly spread on the floor. Instead, you must first navigate with the arrow key between what you get in such a bag, but sometimes you just do not have the time.

The sound may be better

is good, is the audio design. Then we talk about the volume of sounds you hear. Often, they do not match the distance from which you see someone. You may hear very close footsteps, but when you look up, you notice that the enemy is at a safe distance from you. In addition, it is also difficult to hear, for example, if a person is walking over you, right, left or behind you. We hope that these areas of improvement will be resolved in future updates. The three vehicles should also be mentioned. You can browse the map with a buggy, a boat or a helicopter. It offers more dynamics in the game and changes the way you play Call of Duty.

Killing zombies is really for everyone

The Zombies mode is by no means the poorer child and this time this mode really catches all the attention. First of all because you can already play three cards with their own story in the beginning. This is even a supplement when you are the owner of the Black Ops Pass. The IX and Travel or Despair cards also introduce hilarious new characters. In IX, four of them find themselves in an arena of Egyptian gladiators with different mythologies. This map is characterized by the fact that themes of Norse, Celtic and Egyptian mythologies often take turns. That's why this map is surprisingly varied and beautifully designed.

Travel or despair is a more traditional zombie map, where you are on a ship in distress that looks like the Titanic. Of course, you must also deal with the plague of zombies and, within the gigantic ship, you tend to marvel at the built environments, as beautiful as detailed. You really do not have time for that, because in front of this beautiful background, you have to shoot old-fashioned zombies. This card even adds new elements of play because as a player, you must also cross underwater segments where you must even attack zombies in swimming. For the ancients, there is still the blood of death; It's a remake of Mob of the Dead from Black Ops II. Here you have to face the flow of undead with famous characters such as Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo and Nikolai. change the gameplay so that you can literally live the story as you wish. First of all, you can practice in a tutorial. If you are done with it, you can choose the option "Beginner & # 39; as an untrained player. You also have the classic way of playing where you can choose from four different levels of difficulty. Plus, in "Rush" you have the ability to browse everything faster, making the action even more intense. In this case, you have not arrived yet, because you also have the option to edit as many different options as possible. It's really very deep. Whether you use certain weapons or not, the wave from which you want to start, zombies running or running, or barricades, yes or no. These are just a few examples of everything you can adjust. Because of the many opportunities available to you, it may be a bit difficult at first. Nevertheless, it's really nice that you can customize the gameplay in this mode so deeply.

Still, the lack of

Finally, we come back to the missing part, and then of course we talk about the single player. Intuitively, it is a pity that this mode is missing for the moment. Of course, you still have enough to do as a solo player, but a beautiful overflow campaign would certainly not have been moved. And that's all the more so as the story of Black Ops and Black Ops II was so strong. In Black Ops III, this story was once again too complex and therefore difficult to follow. It is precisely with the fourth part that Treyarch had the opportunity to rectify this situation by a beautiful story. This would have undoubtedly generated more goodwill and would have made Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 a whole even more complete than it already is.
