Next year, it will be 350 years after the death of Rembrandt van Rijn, the most important Dutch master of the seventeenth century. The Rijksmuseum takes this opportunity to exhibit "all his works from his own collection" for the first time in history.

"A unique opportunity will not happen again soon," said spokeswoman Elles Kamphuis. She points out that Rembrandt's drawings and engravings are rarely shown. These are usually stored in the repository because of their sensitivity to light.

The Rijksmuseum has the largest collection of Rembrandts in the world. From February 15th, the museum will be able to exhibit 22 paintings, 60 drawings and 300 engravings. At the same time, a biography of Rembrandt, written by the curator Jonathan Bikker, appears

Many Rembrandts, not all

The exhibition, which lasts until June 10, is called Alle Rembrandts . Still, it is not possible to see any of Rembrandt's work (1606-1669) in Amsterdam. Experts estimate that he has made more than 300 paintings, far more than the 22 works of the Rijksmuseum.

Other museums exhibiting many of Rembrandt's paintings are the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (eleven paintings), the Mauritshuis in Den The Hague (nine), the Hermitage of St. Petersburg (eight), the Gemäldegalerie Berlin (seven), the National Gallery of London (seven), the Louvre in Paris (six, plus two with the Rijksmuseum) and the National Museum of Stockholm (five).

Spokesperson Kamphuis said the Rijksmuseum chose to only show works from his own collection.

This is happening in front of the public, who can look through a glass wall at a distance of seven meters. The restoration begins in July 2019, so after the exhibition Alle Rembrandts .
