Saxion students receive thousands of e-mails by internal mail – IT Pro – News

It all started with sending an email to ACT, of which I am a part.

We first sent an email with the request to participate in a study on Green Office and the sustainability of the environment. This type of email with surveys is quite normal, we receive them regularly (a few times a month). However, other people reacted to this mail several times asking them if other people wanted to participate.

Someone then responded with another "search" with a YouTube video. It was a rickroll. A link to "I never get up" from Rick Astley. Then the bomb exploded. It was still in ACT at 11:37.

Half an hour and a few hundred emails later, one person implicated more enemies as a joke. Each acedemie has its own mail group that includes all members, for teachers and coordinators. Each mail group contains as much as I've seen between 1,000 and 3,500 members, and now there are about 9 or 10 in "blast". Count it. Mail groups with teachers were also added later.

I myself received e-mails between 11:40 am and 2:47 pm 1629. Everyone started sending spam, promoting Instragram accounts and sending tikkies to a large group of people.

It's stupid that Saxion does not limit these big mail groups, I think. It is perfectly possible in Office 365 (which Saxion has been using since this summer) to allow some people to use such mail groups. This could have been avoided.
