Seventh body found under the rubble in Marseille

The emergency services of the French city of Marseille, in the south of France, found a seventh body Thursday under the rubble of two buildings that collapsed last Monday. That said, Mayor Jean-Claude Gaudin and local firefighters, reports the Reuters news agency.

The two buildings in central Marseille suddenly collapsed on Monday morning. One of the buildings was declared uninhabitable and evacuated. The second building was still inhabited. Shortly after the incident, the authorities announced that eight people were missing.

Weakening of Surrounding Buildings

According to the rescue services, the rescue operation takes a long time due to the poor condition of the surrounding buildings. These homes were weakened after the collapse of the two buildings. On Tuesday, a building fall was unhooked as a precaution.

The French authorities are still investigating the cause of the incident. The inhabitants informed the French press that many of these properties located near the historic center of Marseille were in very bad condition for a long time.
