A day after hundreds of migrants stormed the Spanish Melilla exclave in North Africa, the Spanish authorities expelled another 55 Africans. This was done on the basis of a treaty between Spain and Morocco, says the local representation of the Spanish government.

More than three hundred migrants attempted Sunday to invade the enclave. The authorities announced Monday that 209 people had managed to reach the EU territory. Some 140 of these migrants then applied for asylum. Several wounded are also in the hospital.

The exclave, surrounded by fences several meters high, is regularly the target of migrant storms wishing to travel to Europe. This also applies to the other Spanish enclave, Ceuta, located 250 kilometers to the west. Around the exclaves, tens of thousands of African migrants are waiting for their chance.
