Starbucks closes its European regional office in Amsterdam. As a result, 190 jobs disappear, the company said Thursday. The coffee chain transfers tasks from the Amsterdam office to the London headquarters. Regional office staff were involved in marketing and logistics, among others.

Starbucks writes with the aim of providing "a more effective team" that, with overall experience, can provide better support to the regional strategy. The closure of the office is scheduled for September 2019.

In addition, the management of coffee shops in the Netherlands – which remain – continues under the franchise partner Mexican Alsea. The company already manages nearly a thousand stores in the coffee chain in Central and South America and is now expanding to Europe. Alsea also takes over management in Belgium, France and Luxembourg.

After leaving the regional office, the Netherlands no longer has a Starbucks office. The headquarters of the coffee chain was transferred from Amsterdam to London in 2014. The roasting of the Starbucks coffee in the Netherlands remains open. Eighty people work here. (NRC)
