ALDERSLEY –
Michael van Gerwen was surprised by his loss on Sunday night in his second Darts Grand Slam match. De Vlijmenaar faced Jonny Clayton at Aldersley.
Van Gerwen opened the first leg with a break, after which Clayton abruptly replied. That did not mean "Mighty Mike" and the Brabander gave gas on board. After three rounds, Van Gerwen led 2-1 and was able to show an impressive average of 119.
His opponent from Wales was eagerly awaiting the pace and determination of the player. And after seven legs, Van Gerwen's lead was only one leg: 4-3. At the turn, everything went suddenly badly with the Vlijmenaar and the Welshman approached. Van Gerwen ruined a bunch of game darts and Clayton then scolded.
"I miss four arrows for the race and that should not happen," Van Gerwen said afterwards. "Looks like I have a subscription twice missed, I'm fed up."
