In the Somali capital Mogadishu, at least nine people were killed in a terrorist attack against the Interior Ministry. The attack began with the explosion of a car filled with explosives at the entrance to the department. Shortly after, a second big explosion followed. Armed terrorists rushed into the building, after which shots were heard.
The police keep in mind that the death toll continues to increase. Saturday is a day of work in Somalia, so ministry officials were at work when the shooting started. Security services entered the premises to put an end to the attack.
The jihadist al-Shabaab organization claimed responsibility for the attack. Extremists regularly choose important targets in the capital. They are targeting the unstable government that is trying to maintain order with the help of an international peacekeeping force. Al-Shabaab aims to create a fundamentalist Islamic State of Somalia.
