Tested: Razer Phone 2, the best phone for gamers?

889 euros and 99 cents. The Razer Phone 2, the new smartphone manufacturer known for its consoles in the Netherlands, is very expensive. For that money, you get a clean screen, 8GB of memory and the best stereo speakers that can be installed on a phone. But does this justify the high price? See video preview

Thick and heavy

A short week with the phone Razer did not convince me. The gigantic photochromic Razer Chroma logo at the back is fun and I appreciate its solid and deviant design, but if you have the phone in your pocket, it literally makes up a leg block.

The phone is very thick (0, 85 centimeters) and especially very heavy: 220 grams. That's 12 grams more than an iPhone XS Max, while the XS Max has a 6.5-inch display and the Razer Phone 2 has a 5.7-inch display. In addition, the Razer is even bigger than an iPhone XS Max, while the screen is much smaller.

Speakers

This is mainly due to the gigantic speakers on both sides. These speakers produce stereo sound, which you will notice especially when watching a good movie or while playing the game.

They sound much better than any other smartphone speaker, but it lacks a good bass and so remains very light. I expected more speakers occupying so much space.

Fortnite

A game of Fortnite goes smoothly and quickly, thanks to the screen that refreshes very quickly at 120Hz. However, the phone heats up quickly at the back.

If you compare it to the phone that I usually use, the OnePlus 6, which costs 370 euros cheaper, the differences are still minimal. On a OnePlus 6, you can also play a Fortnite game. It sounds a little less sharp, but it's barely noticeable.

Conclusion

The idea persists: what is the justification for the high price of this Razer Phone 2? You really have to be a Razer fan or a video game fan who wants a better sound, you want to pay around 900 euros for this Android smartphone.
