The collections experiment, but the money remains king

Charities do their best to keep their door-to-door collections sustainable. It is no longer always necessary to look for a small amount because donations can be made more often with your debit card or your phone.

This year, Tikkie donations and QR-iDeal codes on collection boxes, used for testing throughout the country. "The QR code works very simply," says Arno van Gemert of Alzheimer Nederland. He opens his banking application and clicks on an icon. "Now you can scan the QR code on the bus." He enters an amount in the screen that opens. Then simply enter the PIN code and pay.

Rabobank and Knab participate in the experiment. "We hope the other banks will follow next year," says Van Gemert.

Grace Bernardus wrote a QR code on the collection box in Breukelen, but it has not been used yet. In fact, everyone in his neighborhood donated with a small change. "I did not meet anyone who wants to use the QR code," she says. Her neighbor understands that. "I'm a little old-fashioned," she says, putting a few coins on the bus. "But it is useful for young people because they usually do not have money in their pockets."
