The jewels of the Swedish crown stolen from the cathedral

The robbery took place in Strängnäs Cathedral, west of Stockholm, during the opening hours.

Two crowns and a national apple were stolen. It is the funerary insignia of the Swedish king Karl IV and his wife Queen Kristin, who lived around 1600. The jewels were initially buried with the princes. Later, they were dug up to expose them.

A witness says Aftonbladet that he saw two men run away and that he saw him jump into a small white motorboat. They escaped.

Despite a large-scale human hunt, the perpetrators are still fugitive. The police are looking for witnesses and advice. In two places, house searches were reported to have taken place.

Police say she does not know the value of jewelry. "It is too difficult to value these things, they are such unique things."

Catharina Fröjd, who works in the cathedral, calls theft "a huge cultural and economic loss."
