The Jewish community Beth Shoshanna has to leave the Great Synagogue in Deventer. This is the result of a riot that has occurred in the city of Overijssel in recent months, reports RTV Oost. The community must have left the house of prayer before Wednesday.
The conflict erupted last April when the new owners of the synagogue announced that they wanted to establish a foodhall in the building. Last week, the municipality did not give them permission.

Yet the Jewish community must leave. The owners Ayhan Sahin, a catering contractor from Deventer, and Carlus Lenferink, a real estate contractor from Zwolle, canceled the lease on August 1st. On Monday, the community leaves for a synagogue in Raalte.
Tom Fürstenberg is satisfied with the new place, but he finds it sad that the Jewish community has yet to leave. "You can not believe that a Jewish municipality in 2018 will be removed from a synagogue. It is not normal, but it happens," he told RTV Oost
. We do not know what will happen at the Great Synagogue of Deventer. Sahin and Lenferink bought the house of prayer built in 1892 for 650,000 euros in February. They received no permission from the municipality for the foodhall because, according to the local newspaper the Stentor would undermine the "social and historical significance of the building".
