According to Christie's, the American jewelry chain Harry Winston, which is part of the Swatch Group, is the buyer. The company has renamed the diamond to Winston Pink Legacy. In 2014, Winston also bought a rare blue diamond for $ 23.8 million, renamed The Winston Blue.

Extremely Unusual

The jewel, The Pink Legacy, is considered very unusual by connoisseurs because of its weight and intense color, almost completely uniform. Only one diamond out of 100,000 would have such quality. The jewel once belonged to the Oppenheimer banking family. The expected yield of the diamond was estimated between 27 and 44 million euros.

The high demand for these extremely rare diamonds has led to a sharp rise in prices in recent years. The Pink Star diamond was traded at the Hong Kong auction in 2017 for a record amount of about 67 million euros.

According to Christie's, it is the highest price ever paid per carat for a rose diamond.

The Swatch Group is the largest watchmaker in the world. Well-known brands such as Swatch, Omega, Longines and Brequet are part of the company.
