Employees of the Sandd Postal Corporation must be paid in accordance with the collective agreement for the transportation sector. The judge at Apeldoorn ruled that. The company must therefore retroactively compensate employees who have received insufficient wages in recent years, failing which a penalty will be applied.
The FNV union had already complained that Sandd would refuse to use the right conditions of employment for his staff. In many cases, courier deliverers would receive even less than the minimum wage. That's why a case was introduced.
The judge now concludes that mail delivery is inextricably linked to transportation. This means that Sandd falls under the generally binding collective agreement for the transport sector.
Sandd employs more than 18,000 people, from courier deliverers to drivers to drivers. It is difficult to know how much employees still have to receive the salaries and pensions accumulated.
Ger Deleij, director of FNV, wants to quickly consult the company. In addition, according to the trade unionist, the question will be how far Sandd will be able to repay everything retroactively.
Deleij also wishes to speak to the government and other postal companies. "There is simply no room for two companies operating nationally in this market, especially if you think that employees should be rewarded properly."
At Sandd, no one was available to comment. According to the union, the verdict is important in many cases. FNV has also initiated a similar procedure against delivery Deliveroo deliverers.
