This is how the Dutch Google Assistant

We've known for a few months that Google is working on a Dutch version of his assistant assistant. This "translation" of the assistant consists of two parts: make the artificial intelligence adapted to the Dutch language and give the assistant a Dutch voice.

We now know how this voice resonates thanks to one of the Dutch test subjects. The translated Google assistant is tested by a small group of Dutch and one of them sent us two fragments. In an excerpt, we hear how Assistant says the weather forecast. Listen to this fragment

In the other fragment, Wizard tells a joke: one of the most famous features of the English version of the voice assistant. Like other speech assistants, the speech of the assistant is generated on the basis of all kinds of words, phrases and sounds that have been recorded by a vocal actor. Listen to this fragment .

Speech Assistant

Companies improve to assemble these recorded fragments in a homogenous way. This can be heard in the examples of the Dutch assistant: the sentences seem realistic and natural, as if they were recorded in their entirety.

Google Assistant will be available later this year in the Netherlands, while it is not yet known. Initially, Assistant is only available on Android phones and in the Google app for iOS.

Later this year, Google will also market its Google Home smartphones in the Netherlands, with a Dutch assistant.
