Two Venezuelans were killed in an attempt to enter Aruba with an invisible boat. Four others, who were in the same boat, were later arrested by the police.

A dead person was taken to the sea, the other was not far from the boat stranded on the mainland. It has not yet been determined how they died. The two victims have not yet been identified.

Shortly after the discovery of the two victims, a search was launched with the assistance of the Coast Guard. In addition, three other Venezuelans were discovered. A fourth man could be arrested later. We do not know yet there were more people aboard the boat.

Drugs

During their interrogation, shortly after arrest, one of the Venezuelans said that they had come to Aruba to seek medicine. Almost every day, Venezuelans are trying to reach Aruba and Curaçao with rickety boats, fleeing lack of food and medicine.

Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes worries a lot about the influx of Venezuelans. She said it was sad and disturbing that people are losing their lives by seeking freedom. "They had to be desperate to risk their lives," said Wever-Croes.

Aruba has 110,000 inhabitants and about 5,000 illegal immigrants.
