For the first time in nearly a year, a United Nations humanitarian convoy reached a refugee camp in southern Syria.
The 50,000 people living in Rukban camp, located near the border between Syria, Jordan and Iraq, are in urgent need of help, according to UN Saturday. In addition to food, medicine and hygienic equipment, vaccines have also been provided to approximately 10,000 children.
The last time the UN was able to supply the refugee camp, it was in January of this year. According to local activists, five people have died recently because of the terrible situation in the camp.
Jordan closed its border with Syria last year and declared it military territory after the attack on a nearby Jordanian border post. The country states that he should not be held responsible for the circumstances in the camp.
