At the 102nd Nijmegen Four Days Marches, Stijn, 28, asks his friend Niek, 26, to get married. The latter did not suspect that he would be asked to marry after his heavy journey, but fortunately he said to the delight of the public: "Yes."
Niek had no idea what had happened to him. He thought he was just waiting for his friend, Stijn Maresch, who was walking to his last meters of this Four Days Walk. But Stijn had very different plans: he knelt down.
Stijn and Niek have been together for 6.5 years. During the previous edition of the Four Day Marches, the Niek had already planned to make a proposal this year. "He wanted it to grow," said Niek, when Niek and his mother-in-law saw Stijn enter. Niek was kneeling, Stijn's mother was as shocked as her son, she knew nothing.
