While cars such as the Renault Captur have been on the counter for years, Volkswagen's compact crossovers shone in their absence. For a year now, Seat has been on Arona's menu and by the end of 2018, Volkswagen also thinks the time is right for a Captur competitor. It's the T-Cross.

The Volkswagen Group is lagging behind in the implementation of compact crossovers that face the race for success such as the Renault Captur. While this French sales business has been on the order books of the Netherlands since 2013, Seat was the first brand of the Volkswagen Group to add a model to its delivery range last year: Arona. This Spanish crossover now has a Volkswagen brother: the T-Cross.

The T-Cross is like the Arona and cars like Polo and Ibiza on the MQB A0 platform. It is therefore not surprising that the wheelbase of Volkswagen's youngest model, with its 2.56 meters, matches that of these models. The T-Cross measures 4.11 meters long and 5.4 inches longer than the Polo, but also twelve centimeters shorter than the T-Roc. Of course, the small crossover is also higher than this car. With a height of 1.56 meters, the T-Cross is about eleven centimeters above the Polo. This of course has consequences for the seat. According to Volkswagen, you are ten centimeters higher in the T-Cross than in his brother Polo. The luggage compartment measures 385 liters at the base. The rear seat is sliding fourteen centimeters and the one that puts the bench in the forward position should be able to bring 455 liters. With the rear seat flat, the boot contains 1.281 liters. For comparison: the base can hold 351 liters.

Volkswagen turns the T-Cross into a small crossover integrating the exterior features of the big brother Tiguan. Judging by the first spying photographs, the T-Cross seemed to be nothing more than an Arona with a light Volkswagensausje, but in practice, this seems to be easy. In fact, Volkswagen is surprisingly about to design the file in a way that we have never seen before. A wide red band is placed between the taillights. Unlike what is currently seen in many brands, it is only a reflective feature.

Interior

The interior is particularly recognizable. Although the dashboard is not one-to-one Polo or T-Roc, the interior is very similar to that of these two models. It should be noted the new steering wheel used by Volkswagen in the T-Cross. Volkswagen offers a "design package" on the Life and Style versions, in which the panels of the dashboard have a "3D look". Two-tone seat covers are also part of the package. Even the mirror covers and wheels may be of different colors. Volkswagen has invented the flavors Black, Energetic Orange and Bamboo Garden.

Motorcycles

On the list of international motorcycles, Volkswagen adds three petrol versions and a diesel version. The version 1.0 TSI known is available for 95 and 110 hp. The 1.5 TSI version of 150 hp is also available. The diesel engine is a 1.6 TDI that delivers 95 hp. With the 95 hp 1.0 TSI connected to a five-speed manual hitch, a speed of 100 km / h in 11.5 seconds is given to the clock. Its maximum speed is 180 km / h. The 115 TSI version of the 1.0 TSI, with six-speed manual transmission or DSG7, provides a 0 to 100 sprint in just under ten seconds (9.9 seconds) and reaches a speed of 193 km / h. . The 1.5 TSI accelerates at a speed of 100 km / h in 7.8 counts and continues until the speedometer reaches 220 km / h. This version still has the DSG7 bin. The 1.6 TDI requires twelve accounts for the 0-100 sprint and speeds up to 181 km / h. This concerns the variant with five-speed manual gearbox. All those who will order it with DSG-bak will consume 0.4 times between 0 and 100.

Security

No new model without a complete set of security systems. Volkswagen offers the standard T-Cross with front assistance with pedestrian detection and emergency urban braking, lane assistance, hill start assistance, blind spot detection and parking assistance. Elements such as Adaptive Cruise Control are listed in the options list. Volkswagen simply delivers the car in the form of T-Cross, Life and Style. The latter is equipped with standard LED lights and is based on 17-inch light metal. The standard version is on 16-inch steel wheels. The R-line package visible on these photos is also available in Life and Style.

The T-Cross will arrive on the Dutch market at the beginning of next year. The car is built for Europe in Spanish Navarre, where Polo is also born. For the South American and Chinese market, Volkswagen will manufacture the cars locally.
