In the old building of the Vrijbuiter in Roden is a new camping shop. The Vrijbuiter, which has four branches in total, went bankrupt in August. Ate van der Veen and Gerard Kremer, former owners, are now revitalizing the village hall in Roden.

"Every day we walk past the building and we see that it is empty," says Van der Veen at RTV Drenthe. "The company is our child for ten years and now it is empty. In addition to this emotional reason, we see that it is always possible to reopen the store as an entrepreneur."

Provincial and Municipal Support

The new start will be co-financed by the SME Fund, seven local entrepreneurs, the province of Drenthe and the municipality of Noordenveld. The last two provide a total loan of four tons

"This means a lot for Roden," says Alderman Henk Kosters. The store must produce a few dozen jobs. It is expected that at least ten former employees will return to the case. In addition, the municipality and the province also expect the hall to have an attractive effect on buyers.

Restart

Vrijbuiter was founded in Roden in 1985 and was a household name among campers. Later, branches followed in Zaandam, Gouda and Roermond. The famous De Waard Tenten at Gelderlander Heerde also fell under the Vrijbuiter.

After the bankruptcy, there seemed to be a bidder for this tent manufacturer. The Sunshine group continued with De Waard. In September, two Vrijbuiter branches took a new start: Rotterdam Vervat resumed operations in Zaandam and Gouda. The company did not see any bread in the branches of Roermond and Roden.
