The Germans are dubbing champions, but the Netherlands are the same. The NPO will double the Bad Banks German series in Dutch. But according to experts, this development on television can have a negative impact on our language skills

The German Bad Banks series is dubbed and broadcast later this month in Dutch on NPO1. This has never been done with an adult series. The OBNL wants to see if this will accentuate and choose others in the future.

Our "own" Barry Atsma plays the lead role in Bad Banks. He is now taking over his own role. "It's a violin," he told Editie NL. "The good thing is that we can improve the text, the content, sometimes in Dutch, but looking at me a lot is difficult, it makes me very critical."

This is what the doubled series looks like. The text continues under the film:

"More fun to watch"

The actor also sees Swedish and Danish series, such as Borgen, also appearing in Dutch. "It's just a lot nicer to watch." But in the Netherlands, only children's shows have been dubbed so far.

Nine Meijer, director at Wim Pel Productions, sees that changing slowly. "We are not used to the Netherlands, but we are producing more series for 14 or 15-year-olds, whose generations are growing up and who may want to see adult series dubbed too early."

19659007] Anje Dijk, director of the Language Center at the University of Groningen, would find it unfortunate that Dutch subtitles are disappearing and that dubbing is more common. "The Dutch are just as linguistic because we hear so many languages around us," she explains. "Television and cinema play an important role in language learning: the more you hear another language, the faster you learn."

Starting July 24, you can choose to go in the dubbed or original series. Bad Banks can then be seen in Dutch on NPO1. The original version can be found via NPO Start
