Earlier this year, it became clear that Mark Zuckerberg and other high-ranking Facebook employees had the exclusive privilege of removing messages from Messenger. This news, coming from TechCrunch, could not have come at a worse time; Facebook was at the heart of the crisis surrounding the Cambridge Analytica data scandal and this news gave the impression that Zuckerberg and his team saw themselves differently from other users.
The social network then explained the function following the piracy of Sony Pictures in 2014, to protect communication in the heights. The deleted messages came from conversations that were several years old. More recent messages have been left.
Temporary Suppression
Shortly after this news, Facebook promised to create such a function for all. "We have discussed the option over and over," said a spokesman. "We will make this feature available to the public and, by then, we will no longer remove messages from Facebook users."
