Netmarketshare: Windows 10 finally wins 50% market share

Netmarketshare has released its numbers for August 2019 and they are generally advantageous for Microsoft. After pushing Windows 10 to customers since its launch, the operating system has finally managed to capture 50% of market share. By moving to the web browser, both Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer have seen a slight increase in their market share this month.

On the operating system, Windows 10 has gained about 2% of the market and currently stands at 50.99%. Windows 7, by contrast, dropped to 30.44%. MacOS 10.14 comes in third with a market share of 5.95%. Although the operating system section has brought good news for Microsoft, the company must still push nearly 30% of users to upgrade to Windows 10, while Windows 7 reaches the end of support.

Turning to the browser section, Microsoft Edge is still struggling but has seen a slight increase in its market share. In contrast, Google Chrome dropped to 67.22% and is followed by Mozilla Firefox, which holds 8.43% market share. It is then followed by Internet Explorer which is at 7.50%. Microsoft Edge is in fourth place with only 6.34% market share.

As we noted above, this month has mostly benefited Microsoft. The company can celebrate the fact that more and more people are opting for Windows 10. However, Microsoft must also ensure that users leave Windows 7 before the end of the support.
