Nevik alum Malik Reed will not have to sweat until the day of the NFL. He listed the 53 men from the Denver Broncos.
This news was relayed to the media by team head coach Vic Fangio at the end of the Broncos' final pre-season game on Thursday night. The message was then passed on to Reed, who had a big smile when he heard the news.
Reed was an uncommitted free agent, but was very productive at training camp even though he missed a preseason game with a minor injury.
In the other four Denver competitions, Reed had 10 tackles and four of the 11 bags of the team. Although Reed was not part of a team with 53 players, Denver's first screenings revealed that his talent had changed quickly due to his outstanding pre-season play. He was so impressive star Broncos Von Miller nicknamed him Dream Killer because he kills the dreams of the quarterback.
NFL teams must reduce their number to 53 players Saturday at 1 pm Pacific weather.
Former local players on the player list include James Butler, Raiders' running back; Devin Gray, a wide receiver for Falcons; Wes Farnsworth, a long snapper for dolphins; Tyler Roemer, offensive lineman of the Raiders; and perhaps Austin Corbett, an offensive lineman for the Browns who has drastically dropped this pre-season, although he should still be part of the team although Cleveland has traded two selections from the repechage on Thursday against the Bills for an extra offensive guard.
OT Joel Bitonio (Browns), LB Kyle Van Noy (Patriots), LB Brandon Marshall (Raiders) and TE Virgil Green (Chargers) are safe bet for their respective teams.
