The Amazon UAV delivery service is about to take off.
The Federal Aviation Administration recently issued a special certificate to Amazon Prime Air to test its latest drones, Yahoo Finance reported, and Amazon's chief executive, Jeff Wilke, said the service would be ready to provide drones. to his customers "in a few months".
Amazon has been working for years to develop an unmanned delivery service for its customers. Wilke, Amazon's global consumer CEO, said he expects the Amazon Prime Air delivery service to grow rapidly thanks to Amazon's existing delivery infrastructure. The FAA has approved previous Amazon drones for test flights in recent years, but each new prototype requires a new certificate. According to Wilke, Amazon's latest drone will travel 15 km and will be able to deliver packages of less than five pounds in less than 30 minutes. For now, the Amazon certificate will only cover the tests.
"The FAA has issued a special certificate of airworthiness to Amazon Prime Air allowing it to operate its MK27 unmanned aircraft for purposes of research and development and training of crews in authorized flight areas," said one gate FAA statement in a statement.
