Last June, Square Enix unveiled a new guardians of the galaxy video game in development by Eidos-Montreal. The upcoming video game is an action-adventure RPG in which the player’s decisions impact the unfolding of the story.
When we last saw this intergalactic gang of misfits, they hatched a plan to sell Groot to Lady Hellbender, Queen of Seknarf Nine and notorious monster collector, in order to pay a fine owed to Nova Corps. Back then, the player could choose between selling Groot or Rocket, and the plan was to double down on Lady Hellbender once the deal was done.
The most recent clip builds on that footage, picking up Star-Lord and the rest of the crew negotiating with Lady Hellbender, leader of the Hellraisers. We get a feel for the characteristic humor present in the game and another taste of the decision making process as the player has to navigate the negotiation process and deal with Lady Hellbender antics.
“Lady Hellbender is a fan favorite character in Marvel’s recent comedic tradition, and we were keen that her place in our Guardians universe reflects the complex personality, depth and nature that fans expect to see.” explained Darryl Purdy, director of cinematics and animation at Eidos-Montreal. “And with the humor instilled in every aspect of our playing, it gave us the opportunity to turn expectations around with the story and introduce an unexpected dynamic between her and a certain Destroyer.”
In addition to the clip below, Eidos-Montreal has also provided a version with developer comments on the images. It provides insight into Lady Hellbender’s complex personality as well as cutscenes production for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be released on October 26, 2021 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, PC and streaming via GeForce NOW.
