Two of the Jets’ biggest and youngest stars are thrilled with the team’s new head coach.
Shortly after announcing the hiring of 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, defensive lineman Quinnen Williams and offensive lineman Mekhi Becton expressed their full support for the move.
“YES SIRRRRRRRRRR,” Williams wrote on Twitter with praying hands, flexing and pulling emoji.
Becton published a similar article, writing: “YESSSS SIRRRRR !!!!! LET WORK COACH !!!!! He also included a GIF showing someone’s fist in excitement.
Williams has just won a successful second season with the Jets and appears to be the lifeblood of the defense. Becton drew a lot of praise as a rookie protecting Sam Darnold and could be the anchor of the offensive line for years to come.
Salah, 41, heading to the Jets, who finished 2-14, was endorsed by ex-Jet Damien Woody, who is also an analyst for ESPN.
“This is the first time in quite some time that I felt the #Jets were really on the right track,” Woody tweeted.
49ers safety Richard Sherman was also a fan of the movement.
“The @nyjets have a great one! Congratulations to them! The Pro Bowler posted on Twitter.
He also made a bold prediction in a text addressed to NFL reporter Albert Breer.
“Great pickup!” Sherman wrote. “He’s going to change this whole culture!”
According to Breer, 49ers general manager John Lynch called Saleh an “extremely gifted leader” and said the Jets were “very lucky”.
