Almost 12 months ago, we first glimpsed God of War: Ragnarok, but now we have a first look at the game in detail, with its last appearance during the game. PlayStation Showcase. The story of God of War: Ragnarok picks up some time after the events of the previous game, with an older Kratos and Atreus trying to survive in the frozen landscape as Ragnarok approaches, and with the Norse god Thor seeking revenge. of father and son.
The new trailer shows off the altered landscape from the original game, while also detailing some of the new areas you’ll be able to visit. In addition to using wolves and a sled to cross frozen lakes, you will be able to take your boat to new towns, where you can interact with the townspeople. But of course there are a lot of monsters and villains to fight, and the father-son team is still just as capable of taking down the various threats.
We also got a detailed look at the story, with Kratos and Atreus growing into a young adult at odds with each other. To make matters worse, Freya, a former ally turned antagonist, is now after Kratos, forcing the duo to flee. To complicate matters further, Thor has sent minions after Kratos, and they will use lightning infused weapons to try and take him down.
The trailer was a long look at the game, and it really showed the scope of what was to come with God of War: Ragnarok. God of War 2018 was somewhat of a reboot for the much-vaunted franchise, and it turned out to be one of the best games on the PlayStation 4. Unfortunately, despite God of War’s ending hinting at a sequel, we haven’t seen anything from Kratos and Son since 2018. A sequel was confirmed at a PlayStation Showcase last year when we got a trailer for Ragnarok.
However, that trailer from last year lacked details. All it showed was a logo and a 2021 release date, which we now know was overly optimistic. The game has since been shrouded in mystery, with the only update coming in June when Santa Monica Studios confirmed the game was moved to 2022.
“We have made the decision to postpone this game until next year, to ensure that Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play,” said Herman Hulst, director of PlayStation Studios.
