New Google Material Play Store Layout Theme Design

In April, we allowed a massive redesign of the Play Store, which introduced the Google Material theme. With the latest version of Google Play, this redesign begins to be officially launched on Android.

Like other reorganizations, the redesign of the hardware theme of the Google Play Store removes its main accent colors: green (apps and games), red (movies and television) or blue (audiobooks) in the application bar. Now blank, the search field also replaces "Google Play" with "Search …".

The nested tabs that were in violation of the material guidelines were removed with a new lower bar (more on this later). Therefore, the only carousel relates to store-specific pages: For you, Top Charts, Categories, Editor's Choice, Family and Early Access.

The content feed below uses the Google Sans font for section headers and replaces the "More" button with an arrow. Various material theme elements are used, including new tab indicators, new pills and new buttons.

At the same time, the redesign of the Play Store Material theme adopts a lower bar. There seem to be two variants of the "Apps" icon, but the order remains that of Games, Applications, Movies and TV and Books. Upon opening, the default tab is the last shop used by your last store, with a smooth animation for the icons when you move to a section.

The music has been significantly degraded – which probably reflects the potential depreciation of Play Music for YouTube Music – and is not a tab. It is now in the navigation drawer under "Browse Music" with shortcuts to Play apps, including "Open Music app", below.

In the "My Apps & Games" list, the background is entirely white, while the row separators have been removed for a very clean look. The buttons have been updated and some changes have been made to the application lists. For starters, the name of the app is now much more important, while the "What's New" section provides for better spacing.

How to get the hardware theme of the Play Store redesigned

As stated on Reddit, version 15.1.24 is required to obtain this redesign. Once installed, you need to go to the Play Store App Information page to clear the cache, and then force shutdown (or shutdown from Overview) for this redesign. This process has consistently enabled the Material theme on many of our devices.
