The production would have started on a key element of the next generation of Apple's iPhone. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing has begun the first production tests of the A13 processor for the next Apple phone, possibly called the iPhone 11, according to a Bloomberg report Friday citing anonymous sources. The chip could enter mass production this month.

In September, Apple generally unveils its new line of iPhones. There is little definite news about the new flagship smartphone, but rumors say that it will have three cameras back and one charge upside down. Nobody expects to see a 5G version of the iPhone 11.

Before the release of new iPhones, Apple is expected to introduce the next version of its mobile operating system, iOS 13, at its annual WWDC, which begins June 3. Other possible announcements for this event include a new version of the App Store for the Apple Watch. We could even see material such as a new iPad or MacBook.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing declined to comment.

Originally released on May 10th at 9:23 am Pacific Time.
Update, 11:14 am, Pacific Time: Adds down commentary from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing.
