JEFFERSON, N.J. (AP) – Authorities say that a police officer outside of work hours has been charged with shooting his ex-wife and injuring a man in a New Jersey home.

According to Morris County prosecutors, Newark police officer John Formisano was arrested Monday in Livingston, New Jersey shortly after the shooting at Jefferson. He was later charged with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder, among other charges.

Officers said they reacted to the call for shots when they found Christine Formisano, 37, of Jefferson, dead on the porch of the house. A 40-year-old man was found inside the house with multiple gunshot wounds.

The authorities claim that the weapon allegedly used during the shooting was found in the vehicle of Formisano.

Monday night, it was not clear if Formisano had a lawyer.
