IDAHO FALLS – A new lawyer has been appointed co-counsel for Lori Vallow Daybell.

District Judge Steven Boyce named Jim Archibald in the case on Friday. Archibald is a seasoned public defender and happens to be one of the few certified death penalty lawyers in eastern Idaho. He has represented several prominent clients in death penalty cases – the most recent being Brian Dripps.

On Thursday, Fremont County prosecutors announced they would seek the death penalty for Chad Daybell, Lori’s husband. Similar intentions have not been announced for Lori.

In May, a psychologist found Lori incompetent to stand trial and recommended that she undergo psychiatric treatment.

Since then, his case has been suspended or suspended until his mental condition improves. She was turned over to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare for treatment.

At present, Mark Means is still listed as Lori’s lead lawyer.

Daybell and her husband Chad Daybell are charged with several counts of conspiracy to commit murder and first degree murder, among other crimes. The charges relate to the murders of Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, Tylee Ryan, 16 – two of Lori’s children – and Chad’s first wife, Tammy Daybell.

Lori Vallow is also charged with conspiracy to commit murder in Arizona in connection with the death of her former husband Charles Vallow.

Chad is due to hold a pre-trial conference on September 30 ahead of the jury trial already scheduled for November. It’s unclear when Lori will be back in court.
