New MSI Prestige 14 and 15 Laptops Receive Intel Processors and 4K Comet Lake Calibrated Screens

Among the many manufacturers who launch new or updated laptops this week alongside the launch of the new Intel Comet Lake processors, there is MSI. This week, the company introduces its new Prestige 14 and Prestige 15 compact notebooks, featuring Intel Core 10th generation processors, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 16 GPUs, and a factory calibrated 4K display. Laptops are meant for experienced users running multiple threads at a time – such as content creators and photographers – especially with the high-end hex-core configurations of the machines.

MSI Prestige 14 and 15 notebooks are based on the 10th generation of "Comet Lake-U" processors with up to six processor cores. High-end processors come with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 in the Max-Q design configuration. Officially, MSI calls this configuration "upgrade", but the SKU specifications, even those of the cheapest Prestige 15, include the 1650. The details on the Prestige 14, by contrast, are harder to find and are not clear what is the basic configuration there.

Meanwhile, in terms of memory and storage, the 14-inch notebook comes with 16GB of built-in LPDDR3-2133 memory and an M.2 SSD with a SATA or PCIe 3.0 x4 interface, while the 15-inch can be equipped with up to 64GB of memory, as well as two M.2 readers (see the exact specifications in the table below).

The Prestige 14 and Prestige 15 laptops from MSI are delivered in an elegant sandblasted aluminum frame with blue accents of only 16 mm in both cases. The bodies host an IPS panel of 14 or 15.6 inches (which probably means AHVA or something similar), the MSI offering options 1920×1080 and 3840×2160. All panel options cover 100% of the Adobe RGB color gamut and are factory calibrated to Delta-E <2 color accuracy.

In terms of connectivity, the systems are very similar, but not completely identical. Computers come with a Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth adapter, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB type A connectors (2.0 for the 14-inch model and 3.2 Gen 2 for the 15-inch model), an HDMI 2.0 output, a connector 3.5mm audio for headphones and a microSD card reader. As far as multimedia capabilities are concerned, MSI's Prestige 14/15 laptops come with a webcam with IR sensors, stereo speakers and a set of microphones.

It should be noted that MSI Prestige laptops, introduced in 2018, were primarily intended for business users seeking a combination of performance and compact form factor. At the same time, MSI's Prestige 14 and Prestige 15 laptops, in their high-end configurations, are increasingly targeted at creative professionals, which essentially means that systems enter the workplace. In fact, the Prestige brand plays just as well for business users who need to show their status as for creative professionals.
