From today until January 31, 2021, anyone who activates a new Oculus Quest 2 and then connects it to a PC through Oculus Link will receive a copy of the PC VR-exclusive action-adventure. Wrath of Asgard free. Asgard’s Wrath currently sells for $ 40 on the Oculus Store for PC.
Facebook is running the promotion as a way to celebrate the first anniversary of Oculus Link technology that lets you connect a Quest to your PC and play PC VR games right on the headset as if it were a Rift . Link recently left beta and is now “officially” supported. This promotion is one of the first signs that Oculus is fully and publicly marketing and promoting the Quest 2 as a legitimate PC VR headset rather than a standalone device. Of course, he’s always been able to do both.
Notably, this promotion does not apply to existing owners of Quest 2 (despite the recent launch of the headset less than two months ago). This is strictly reserved for anyone who activates a new Quest 2 by January 31st.
If you bought your Quest 2 very recently, which to be fair is totally possible if you’re reading this, you might still be in the returns window. It’s 14 days if purchased directly from Oculus. If you don’t mind, you can return the headset and buy a new one to take advantage of the offer. If you are actually going this route, let us know in the comments or via email with which retailer you did it and if there were any issues.
Asgard’s Wrath is still, personally, my favorite VR game. I’m a big fan of games like Zelda, The Elder Scrolls and generally any kind of fantasy setting so I can play 30+ hour RPG full of custom levels, dungeons, puzzles, enemy encounters etc. . all tied together by a radical narrative that covers the entirety of Norse mythology, was pretty amazing. It won our Game of the Year award for 2019.
You can also play Asgard’s Wrath wirelessly on Quest if you use Virtual Desktop to stream the game to your standalone headset, although depending on the quality of your router and home network there might be a noticeable latency of this way, making parry combat based on reactions. quite difficult.
Facebook ran a similar promotion last year to help sell the Rift S headsets. With games like Myst and Warhammer on the horizon for Quest and Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond for PC VR, it’s shaping up to be a big deal. busy vacation period for RVing.
