A 27-year-old man from New Orleans sparked the shooting which left him and two others dead inside the Jefferson Gun Outlet in Metairie on Saturday afternoon, police sources said.
The sources said Joshua Jamal Williams was carrying a pistol with an elongated pliers in the gun store and indoor firing range at 6719 Airline Drive around 3 p.m. on Saturday when staff told him to unload his gun. The rules prohibit people from loading firearms off the range.
Williams then fired a warning shot before fatally shooting store worker Noah Fischbach, 47, who was married and a father, one of the sources said. Several armed people at Jefferson Gun Outlet then began exchanging gunshots with Williams.

Williams and a woman were both shot and fatally injured during the melee. He died after running to the parking lot, and the woman died near the store’s glass front door, which was smashed. Two other people were injured and taken to hospital, and their injuries were not considered life threatening, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
A Williams relative on Saturday wondered what could have caused the first shots.
