Blizzard has uploaded several new videos from their recent Overwatch 2 game test with OWL pros in Hawaii, and this is our first look at Dorado by day and Havana by night in the upcoming game.
At this point, we know that Overwatch 2 will be getting a number of new maps, New York, Rome, Toronto, and more. But, on Saturday, October 9, Overwatch uploaded new videos of Havana and Dorado in the sequel, and both maps appear to be getting a major makeover.
Dorado has been a classic and beloved Overwatch map since the game’s release, and Havana also became quite popular after its release in May 2019. In the sequel though, it looks like the developers have pulled the old switcheroo with them.
As you can see in the two videos embedded in this story, Havana is now played at night, while Dorado is (finally) shown in all its glory by daylight. Starting with Havana, we actually didn’t see much after the second leg in the play test, as the attacking first team was only able to advance halfway through the first section.
But, this little glimpse shows how beautiful the Cuban city is under the stars. The buildings are lit up, the street lights bathe the payload path in their warm glow, and honestly, it almost looks like a whole new map, although the lighting is different (which we can see now, at least.)
Moving on to fan favorite Dorado, unlike Havana, the Mexican map is now fully displayed in daylight. For years, players have wondered what the map would look like in light, especially after the release of the Castillo Deathmatch map, and now we can finally see it in all its glory.
Daytime Dorado looks amazing, the colors of the buildings stand out much more than on the classic night map, and the new lighting adds a whole new dimension to the scene. Just watching the preview feels like meeting an old friend for the very first time after an awesome glow.
The new hero abilities and cards are great and are certainly the main draw in Overwatch 2, but the overhaul of the old content is a real treat for veteran players. As the sequel’s release date hopefully approaches more and more, we can’t wait to see what other changes Blizzard makes to the maps we already know and love.
