Apple’s MagSafe iPhone 12 Battery Pack is expected to start hitting customers later this week after being announced last Tuesday, but one lucky buyer managed to get their hands on one earlier. The images posted on Reddit offer our first real-world MagSafe Battery for iPhone 12, with details on fit, finish, and thickness.

On Reddit, Steven Russell says they were able to pick up the MagSafe battery at their local Apple Store in Memphis, Tennessee, this weekend. This despite the fact that Apple’s online store currently shows that the MagSafe Battery is not available for in-store pickup from Apple stores, and online orders are currently expected to ship towards the end of the month.

Russell shared some first impressions of the iPhone 12 MagSafe battery pack

  • “hard, smooth plastic. No silicone like I expected. I feel like it might hold up better.
  • “The magnet is STRONG. I can see where that would be a problem with the leather cases and the circular imprint.
  • “Perfect combo with white silicone case.”

Russell also noted that it “certainly adds a bit of thickness” to the iPhone 12 being “about the same size” as Mophie’s competing iPhone 12 battery. “The rounded edges are a bit nicer. to hold in hand, ”adds Russell.

Apple announced the MagSafe Battery Pack for iPhone 12 last week, and it’s its own alternative to existing offerings from companies like Mophie and Anker. It attaches magnetically to the back of the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max and charges the connected iPhone at 5 W. It has a 11.13 Wh battery which is smaller than Mophie and Anker.

The first orders for MagSafe battery packs are expected to start arriving later this week, when we also expect them to officially arrive in Apple Stores. In the meantime, let us know what you think of the first images in the comments below!
