The PS5 and Xbox Series X are nearly impossible to find right now, and it looks like that won’t change anytime soon. The first month of 2021 is almost over, and while GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and many more have all released new inventory this month, it wasn’t enough to meet demand, and part of that is because every replenishment has been so important. limited with Sony and Microsoft’s production lines battling for parts, and because the pandemic’s effect on production lines last year still persists. According to AMD CEO Lisa Su, that won’t change in 2021.
Speaking to investors on a recent earnings call, Su revealed that not only demand from the consumer side is high, but also from the production side, with companies competing for the same parts. As a result, AMD expects these issues to continue until at least the second half of the year.
Su isn’t divulging much of other consequences, but it does confirm that the PS5 and Xbox Series X will continue to be hard to find until at least June, unless demand declines, which seems unlikely. at this stage. And at the moment, there is no guarantee that supply will slightly outpace demand in the second half of the year, but AMD seems to be hoping things could change by then.
At present, neither Sony nor Microsoft has spoken much about the stock situation, especially the former. The latter, Microsoft, at least recently confirmed that it does not expect any changes on this front for this financial quarter.
Of course, the problem comes on top of resellers, who gobble up inventory before consumers can via bots that order thousands of consoles in minutes. Right now the reseller market is very healthy and it’s pretty easy to find a PS5 and Xbox Series X there, but of course these consoles come with inflated prices.
